Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali Hosts Fun Turtle Release Activity

To coincide with World Turtle Day, Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali hosted a fun turtle release activity on 25 May 2018, which was carried out in collaboration with Yayasan Penyu Lestari, a local foundation committed to turtle conservation.

In-house guests were invited to participate in this eco-friendly event by adopting a baby turtle for a token fee, with all funds raised going towards helping the foundation continue its mission to protect newly laid turtle eggs from predators and arrange further release programmes.

During this uplifting afternoon initiative, a total of 25 baby turtles were released back into their natural habitat on the shoreline of Jimbaran Beach and every participant received a certificate and token souvenir from Yayasan Penyu Lestari.

As per local tradition, the people of Bali have long held turtles in esteem, this relates to ancient Hindu mythology whereby the world is believed to rest on the backs of four dragons standing on the shell of a giant turtle.

World Turtle Day is an annual undertaking to help protect turtles and their disappearing habitats around the world. It is quite fitting that the resort chose to celebrate this day as Jimbaran Beach is a popular breeding ground for Bali’s endangered green sea turtle.

“I am delighted that we had such an enthusiastic turn-out for our turtle release activity. This event generated awareness about these gentle creatures by highlighting the ongoing plight for their survival. It also goes hand-in-hand with a vision instilled by Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts and our owning company, Summarecon Agung Tbk, to take necessary action now for the benefit of future generations,” says Mr. Horst Walther-Jones, General Manager of Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali.
