The Papandayan name is derived from the volcano mountain in West Java called Papandayan.
Papandayan is located 70 km SE of Bandung and as one of Indonesia’s tourist attractions. Numerous small vents are located within the crater, known as Kawah Mas, Kawah Baru, Kawah Nangklak and Kawah Manuk. The rainforest area in The Papandayan mountains was established as a reserve on Feb 14 1924, with the total area of 884 Hectares.
On 5 Oct 1978, through the Agricultural Minister of Forestry, it was stated that the area of the Wildlife Reserve of Papandayan was now increased to 6,807 Hectares. This area is mostly dominated by Trees Suagi, Cantigi, Mirten, Hurubatu, Edelweiss etc.
