A Sanctuary that grows from catastrophic

In 1988, Pemuteran village was an environmental disaster. Most of the population in Pemuteran village is refugee from Mount Agung eruption in 1963, as a resident in north of Bali, they work as a fisherman without having any fishing knowledge so they did illegal fishing such as potassium cyanide and bombing. From that moment on, it becomes sea damage. Careless habit from the people made Pemuteran much more neglected. It was arid, desolate, or commonly said as total state of catastrophe.

 

 

Once upon a time, Agung Prana as an eco-tourism pioneer saw the environmental disaster decided start to begin community education through traditional cultural and spiritual gatherings. He also gave English and hospitality class. At 1992, Taman Sari Cottages is set up, following with repopulate of coral fish by Biorock Technology.

After twenty-six years, nowadays we can enjoy the well establish of Pemuteran area. It was not easy make a change from environmental disaster into one of Bali destination choice. Agung Prana was working on application of Tri Hita Karana in a community based sustainable development. He develop Pemuteran coastal village as a special interest tourism destination.

Taman Sari Resort and Spa provides sixty rooms with three main types of room, cottages, suites, and villas. Each of the type has divided into sub-type room, such as standard, deluxe, ocean front suite, family suite, and many more depend on the room size and other facility.  They have a wide range of rooms for supporting any type tourist from backpacker, family, into honeymooners.
The resort takes a traditional approach to the peace and quite of its guests, so they eliminated televisions from most of the room.

Perfectly situated in front of Pemuteran beach, and surrounded by palettes of eleven mystical hills and three bays, the village of Pemuteran in the north of Bali is home to Taman Sari Resort & Spa. The retreat is a fascinating getaway for those looking for a somewhat different vacation destination. Built with passion to give something back to the nature, they also build a coral plantation program with Biorock Technology in the beach of Taman Sari Resort. Following its success of Taman Sari Resort and Spa, on 2006 Agung Prana built another resort still in this area named Amertha Bali Villas.

Amertha Bali Villas offer a different style of accommodation than the previous property, but they still bring the intimate getaway vacation within an envelope of nature.

As the owner environmental concern, he build only 20% from the total area, and dedicated the rest of 80% is for greenery public scene.

There are 15 spacious villas featured here, all with their own private terrace overlooking a pool. All rooms is fully equipped with facilities and amenities that include comfortable beds with mosquito nets, air conditioning, hair dryer, Wi-Fi, television, and complete kitchenette.

Both of Taman Sari Resort and Amertha Bali Villas offer a perfect retreat for those looking for something less commercial and less crowded. Here guests can lay back and relaxed while practicing the art of doing nothing away from civilization and tiresome everyday interaction.

For holidaymakers, If have some more active time here, Pemuteran offers an impressive range of natural attractions. There is diving, snorkeling, coral plantation, trekking in waterfall or Bali West National Park area and beyond, spiritual journey to Melanting, Pulaki Temple are available in this wonderful area.

For group or individual activity, also you can book in advance guide trip to Menjangan Island for snorkeling and diving, or to Mount Ijen in East Java, which have the special interest about crater and sulfur mine, their famous sightseeing called blue fire.

To reach between Taman Sari Resort & Spa and Amertha Bali Villas, it takes three hours driving from Denpasar, or half hours driving from Gilimanuk harbor.

Seeing Pemuteran area this day, I think it was a worth works from what Agung Prana started. He has the key to achieve goals, there is community awareness and attitude encourage by cultural and spiritual approach, spirit of togetherness, collaboration and synergy.

Kalpataru Adipura Award, Indonesia most prestigious environmental award, presented by President of Indonesia.

United Nations Sasakawa Enviromental prize nomination, given to I Gusti Agung Prana, Balinese conservationist and eco tourism expert.
