Nyepi, or Silent Day, is commemorated annually in Bali and is a perfect time for us to pause and reflect on our lives. The dazzling blue ocean and tranquil breezes of the resort provide a serene backdrop for such reflection, making it the perfect location to embark on new beginnings.
Nyepi Day this year falls on Wednesday 25th March 2020 and marks the Balinese Saka New Year. It is the time when the island turns silent for 24 hours, and the Balinese people fast and meditate.
The day before Nyepi Day is called Pengrupukan and is when the Balinese people gather in the streets for celebrations enlivened by the Ogoh-Ogoh parades. Ogoh-Ogoh are demonic forms, reflecting malevolent elements, that are made from bamboo and paper. At the end of the parades, the evil spirits on the island of Bali are symbolically driven away by burning the Ogoh-Ogoh.
