Two Hyatt hotels in Sanur, Bali — Hyatt Regency and Andaz Bali — have received the GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation Program, the gold standard accreditation of health and safety, from Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) this December. This accreditation demonstrates our commitment and readiness to prevent contagious diseases such as COVID-19. GBAC is a Hyatt-appointed accreditation body based in the USA that helps organisations establish protocols and procedures, offers expert-led training and assesses a facility’s readiness for biorisk situations.
For Hyatt Regency Bali, this accreditation adds a perfect final touch as the hotel has recently been awarded HACCP for Food Safety System, New Normal from Bali government and Clean, Health, Safety & Environment (CHSE) certification from Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. For Andaz Bali, the GBAC accreditation marks a special achievement as the hotel is only due to open next April, making it the only hotel in preopening phase that has passed this rigorous process.
What difference does having this accreditation make? We chat with our Hygiene Manager, Kinanti Kuncoro, to learn more:
What does it mean for a hotel to have a GBAC accreditation ?
It means that the hotel is aware of, ready and prepared for any biorisk emergency situation, such as COVID-19.
How is GBAC different from other hygiene accreditations?
GBAC is different as it covers all aspects of hygiene and safety, from food and rooms to the management as well. GBAC also requires us to create an emergency plan that will enable us to handle, prepare and recover from any possible risks.
What challenges did you face when obtaining this accreditation ?
Getting this accreditation required a joint effort across all departments, so we spent a lot of time aligning to make sure everyone was on the same page. Luckily, our colleagues were very cooperative and excited to make this happen. Another challenge was to create hygiene and safety protocols that are sustainable — something we can continue even after the pandemic.
How can we implement hygiene procedures at home ?
- Always change your clothes and wash your hands once you arrive home.
- Wear a mask at home if someone is sick, especially if you live with elders.
- Disinfect any incoming items from outside.
Armed with this accreditation, Hyatt Regency and Andaz Bali are confident to welcome guests in this new normal era.
