Uniting Hope on World Cancer Day at The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection

On 4 February 2026, World Cancer Day unfolded in Sanur not with ceremony, but with connection. The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, together with The Sanur Special Economic Zone for Health and Wellness, welcomed 16 children from Yayasan Kanker Anak Indonesia (YKAI) for a day shaped by care, creativity, and shared humanity.

Rooted in the Indonesian spirit of gotong royong, or collective effort, the initiative brought together young patients living with conditions including osteosarcoma, brain cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, and Langerhans cell histiocytosis. The focus was simple yet powerful, joy. Children painted tote bags, crafted “Colours of Hope” bracelets, and spent the day immersed in laughter and expression, small but meaningful reminders of resilience.

Employees from both hotels contributed donations to YKAI, reinforcing a tangible commitment to stand alongside families navigating treatment. “As a growing health and wellness destination, we feel a responsibility to bring moments of joy and encouragement to children and their families,” said Susy Napitupulu, Director of The Sanur.

General Manager Ed Brea echoed the sentiment, noting that the fight against cancer extends beyond medical care to prevention, awareness, and emotional support. The day was further enriched by hypnotherapy sessions led by Dr. Jan Christian, offering mental wellness guidance for both children and parents.

For Hana Elisa Mandey of YKAI, the gathering carried a deeper message: community support reminds families they are not alone.

In a destination increasingly defined by wellness, this World Cancer Day served as a quiet yet powerful reminder that true hospitality begins with empathy—and that when communities unite, hope feels a little closer.
