David Bowie’s Mandalay Estate Available for Rent on Celebrity Island of Mustique

For the first time ever, The Mandalay Estate, a beautiful hill top villa on the stunning Caribbean island of Mustique, and one of the island’s most iconic homes is available for rent.

Built in 1989 for the British rock legend David Bowie, Mandalay is a blend of wonderful ornate Balinese style, essential modern elements and Caribbean charm, containing all of the original fixtures, furniture and styling from David Bowie’s ownership.

The property has five generously styled and named bedroom suites each with their own private veranda which lead straight to the pool, several impressive reception rooms, a dining pavilion, games room, study, infinity pool as well as a number of private garden decks, perfect for sunbathing, dining or relaxing.
Facing west, the property, situated on 6.2 acres, is perfectly placed to enjoy the mesmerizing Mustique sunsets and white sandy beaches and clear turquoise seas.

Mandalay is built around a split level koi pond, waterfalls, and an infinity pool – which seemingly link the property to the Caribbean Sea and draw the flora and fauna of the surroundings into the house.

In addition to the main property, Mandalay is also home to ‘The Writer’s Cottage’ which provides guests with first-class self-contained, open plan accommodation away from the main villa. The writer’s cottage was used regularly by poet and publisher Felix Dennis who purchased the property from David Bowie in 1995. Felix wrote many of his most well-known pieces of work including “How to get rich” and “A glass half full” in the writer’s cottage.

Nestled deep within the property’s tropical gardens also lies ‘The Studio’, a private pavilion which was originally David Bowie’s recording studio which offers further secluded and exclusive guest accommodation.

Guests will be hosted by Mandalay’s fourteen on site staff who will ensure that guests have the stay of their dreams.
