Lumbung Restaurant in Ubud is the latest edition to the family of Desa Visesa Ubud Resort. Set in under the entrance bridge of the hotel, Lumbung Restaurant treated to an interior décor of modern elegance with the glass wall and good ambient lighting. A warm and intimate interior is created by the utilization of dark grey.

Lumbung Restaurant pays tribute to Indonesia’s culinary from serving authentic Indonesian food in casual style. We tried several of their bests from start to finish. Beginning with kangkung urab and fresh yet spicy Squid Sambal dabu-dabu. Also, the uncommon dishes such as popular Maluku dish of raw chopped tuna in various spices, the gohu tuna fish. Fresh raw tuna with lemon scent combined with flavorful authentic Maluku spice was a jolt to the palate.

The starter was completely by their special soup from West Java called Soto Bandung and Sayur Asem. Both, is another traditional Sundanese food worth savoring.

Soto Bandung consist a powerful of clear broth, filled with beef strips, peanuts, and slice of radish. To spice up into a flaming levels, I add sambals and splash of lime squeeze.

Sayur Asem itself is an Indonesian vegetables soup with main ingredient such as corn, long beans, and unpeeled seeds of mlinjo, waluh, all cooked in tamarind-based soups. Both soups were great dish that warms up from cold and rainy days at the moment.

Coming into our mains, we had Sambal goreng ati petai (Indonesian potatoes sambal with stinky beans). Stinky beans may sound gross for an international culinary, but here in Indonesia, this ingredients can makes such a scrumptious dishes with aromatic herbs and spices. The Chef create an innovation for this food by using the stinky beans skin added to the dishes, that made crisp sensation, and more delicate taste.

The star of the show is crispy Soka Crabs, and the famously Beef Rendang. It was incredibly flavorful and great dish on its own. Rendang, as we know is a food that rich in spices. Along with the main meat ingredient, Beef Rendang cooked slowly simmering with Indonesian spice paste, coconut milk, lemongrass yields. End up with amazingly tender, rich flavor, and thick texture. It’s a hard not to pile it up those main dishes on rice, whether white or red rice.

After flavorful and richness Indonesian dishes from Sumatra to Maluku, now the times comes up into our finale. To soothe my hype-up palate, I turn to Indonesian favorite dessert, they are lapis legit, bubur sumsum.

Those are Indonesian sweet dessert, with a complexity of cooked level especially for lapis legit. It was an endless ended heritage culinary journey with a sip of white wine.
