John Hardy: Fifty Years of Legacy, Crafted by Heart, Shaped for the Future

In 1975, a Canadian artist named John Hardy fell in love with Bali—a place that would inspire a legacy of craftsmanship and cultural respect. What began as a jewelry atelier rooted in the spirit of the island has evolved into a global symbol of timeless artistry. Now, fifty years later, John Hardy marks its golden anniversary by honoring that origin story, blending tradition with modernity under the vision of Creative Chairman Reed Krakoff.

Krakoff, a visionary known for redefining luxury, continues to shape John Hardy’s identity through design evolution and cultural storytelling. Drawing from Bali’s rich symbolism and artisanal methods, he breathes new life into signature collections—from the intricate weave of the Icon Chain to the sculpted elegance of Spear and the soulful forms of the Artisan Series. Each creation echoes the brand’s reverence for handcraft and innovation.

Beyond design, John Hardy remains deeply connected to its founding values of sustainability, community, and craftsmanship. From reclaiming metals and ethically sourcing stones, to empowering future artisans through the “Jobs for Life” program, the brand stays rooted in purpose. Its bamboo-crafted workshop in Ubud is more than a design studio—it is a living expression of conscious creativity, nourishing over 650 artisans daily, and championing environmental stewardship across Bali.

To celebrate this milestone, John Hardy unveils commemorative collections and immersive experiences at the Seminyak Boutique, including a masterclass in silver chain weaving. These moments invite individuals not only to witness legacy, but to be part of it—connecting the soul of Bali with the spirit of those who seek meaning in what they wear.
