Marak & Ark: A Journey of Tradition, Innovation, and Cultural Harmony

Balinese Arak is more than a local drink—it is a symbol of cultural fusion, blending history and heritage in each sip. Indoestri Teluk Saba proudly presents Marak, an artisanal beverage that marries tradition with modernity. This craft spirit reflects the essence of Balinese culture, and its packaging is a testament to the rich, time-honored values of the island.

The Marak logo features two stones of varying sizes, representing strength in diversity and the balance that defines the brand. This design celebrates unity and the collaboration of cultures that harmoniously coexist.

The beverage is presented in a ceramic vessel that combines modern elegance with a nod to ancient traditions. The deep blue hue, inspired by the blue flames of Kawah Ijen, evokes memories of a time when communities cherished drinks served in finely crafted ceramics. Its intricate design makes it an ideal addition to home decor or a thoughtful gift.

Marak’s philosophy is rooted in the fusion of Balinese and Chinese cultures, symbolized by the phrase “Nyama Kelihan,” or “Saudara Tua,” which honors the Chinese heritage in Bali. The intertwining of these cultures is exemplified in the story of Jaya Pangus, a Balinese king, and Kang Cing Wei, a Chinese princess, whose romance inspired the Barong Landung tradition. This cultural heritage was beautifully highlighted during the Marak launch on October 30, 2024, at Amandari, Sayan, where the captivating Barong Landung narrative was brought to life through a traditional gamelan performance in both Indonesian and the ancient Kawi language.

The launch day began with a Mecaru ceremony at the House of Marak in Nusa Dua, offering guests the opportunity to experience Marak firsthand. The striking hexagonal bar, bathed in rich red hues, set the tone for the event. A photography installation by Gung Ama further explored the fusion of Balinese and Chinese cultures, capturing the essence of ancestral worship through images of Gong Beri and Kongco.
