On the morning of 7 February 2026, Segara Ayu Beach in Sanur became more than a shoreline, it became a shared pledge. The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, in collaboration with the Bali Hotel Association (BHA), led a beach clean-up initiative that underscored how hospitality and environmental stewardship can move in tandem.
Joined by Denpasar’s Deputy Mayor, I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa, hotel teams, local community members, and sustainability partners, the effort reflected a broader commitment to protecting Bali’s fragile coastal ecosystem. Supporting the initiative was Bali Beach Cleaning Bali, which deployed specialized equipment including the compact “Baby Tapiro,” a precision machine designed to sieve and remove even micro-particles from the sand, an important step in safeguarding marine life. Sand-levelling machinery and manual screening sieves were also used to reach steep or hard-to-access areas, clearing heavier debris such as dried coral and sharp objects to ensure visitor safety. Four crew members from Bali Beach Cleaning Bali joined the effort on the ground.

By the end of the morning, 10 kilograms of waste, ranging from glass bottles and cans to plastic packaging, cigarette butts, and rubber materials, had been collected. The debris was carefully sorted alongside waste management experts working with The Sanur Special Economic Zone before entering responsible recycling channels.
For Ed Brea, General Manager of The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, the initiative reflects a larger philosophy. Situated within Bali’s Special Economic Zone for Health and Wellness, the properties aim to integrate sustainability into daily operations. Participating in the clean-up, he noted, is a tangible expression of that commitment, protecting the marine environment while strengthening collaboration with government and local communities.
More than a one-day effort, the beach clean-up forms part of the hotels’ ongoing sustainability programs, reinforcing their role in advancing responsible tourism and long-term environmental care in Bali.
