After skipped year of 2020, Ubud Village Jazz Festival (UVJF) did its very successful ‘revival’ in October 2021 with all restrictions and limitations and aligned with all of the pandemic protocols. Even though was a small and presented only national line ups, yet it became a milestone of the return of jazz concert, festivals and live music in Bali and Indonesia.
This year, UVJF is ready to jazz up the island again and this one is going to be the 9th year consecutively. Taking place at ARMA Museum, Pengosekan, Ubud on August 12th – 13th 2022, UVJF is starting to invite international line ups again along with the travel relaxations policies and flight connections availability.
This was further strengthened by the selection of the Ubud Village Jazz Festival as one of the events that passed the Kharisma Event Nusantara as an International Scale Event from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of The Republic of Indonesia. This event will carried out with provisions of the CHSE and the Covid-19 health protocols.
Among the line ups, Ubud Village Jazz Fetival 2022 will have The Bernard Rossum Quartet (Netherland). Bernard is a saxophone player who also teaches in some well-known conservatories of music in Europe (Amsterdam and Codarts). He is also the founder of Flamenco Big Band that gain so much positive feedback from the jazz enthusiasts and critics all around the world. Here, at UVJF 2022 Bernard will bring his quartet to perform his recent project.
Sun Kim, a young, talented and one of the most talked about guitarist from South Korean’s new generation, will also come and play at UVJF 2022. Graduated as a bachelor degree (under scholarship) and master degree from Berkley, Sun Kim has colored the Korean Jazz scene with his unique, young, and fresh interpretation.
From Indonesia, UVJF proudly present Tohpati, one of the most versatile and internationally acclaimed guitarist-composer-producer. He will perform with his project Tohpati Bertiga. The magic fingers Balawan with his Batuan Ethnic Fusion, a unique blend of jazz, rock, and gamelan.
A-12-year-old prodigy Gev Delano from Semarang, Central Java. Indeed an incredible electric bass player. He has a masterful of electric bass playing like he’d been playing it professionally for 30 years. Gev will collaborate with Bali’s young guns Krisna Dharmawan on guitar, Gede Yudistira on keys and Grady Boanerges on drums. Seeing there young guns playing together is so convincing that jazz in Indonesia will be just fine.
Another young band is Panacea, the 1st prize winner of UPH Conservatory of Music National Jazz Competition 2022, a very prestigious national competition from incredible new talents is and will be born every year. Representing the conservatory, UPH Teachers Collab group will perform along with Panacea.
Soulfeggio “Tribute to Nathalie Cole” , Warman Sanjaya & Irsa Destiwi, also Gustu Brahmanta Ethnic Project are among the line ups from Bali. These Bali’s muse will show you that Bali always has numerous-talented-and high level musician.
The Venue
UVJF layout and decor for all festival area including the stages, stalls, are designed exclusively by UVJF organising team, Klick Swantara and Diana Surya from Archimetriz Design. All the ideas projected to give unique and cozy ambience, without leaving Bali local wisdom.
Last but note least, there will be some food and merchandises stalls at the venue, so by that UVJF 2022 not only pamper you with great music but also your appetite.
