In line with Hyatt’s commitment to care for people and the planet, and as a responsible business, to ensure thriving destinations for its guests, colleagues and communities, Alila Villas Uluwatu is excited to offer guests a deeper journey into its regenerative approach to tourism.
Travellers planning an escape to Alila Villas Uluwatu can now opt to upgrade their stay in terms of sustainability with the resort’s newly launched “Positive Footprint” booking. Selecting this option will ensure a stay that encompasses the highest levels of sustainability within the guest’s villa as well as unique opportunities to explore, and even get actively involved in, the resort’s comprehensive environmental and community initiatives.
Sustainability is the new luxury at this EarthCheck Platinum-certified resort, a model of sustainable design and responsible tourism that seeks to inspire a new generation of conscious travellers to grow their awareness and make a positive impact.
Alila Villas Uluwatu is already known as a Regenerative Tourism trailblazer. Under its NO PLASTICS initiative, the resort has eliminated unnecessary plastic packaging and items in all villas and restaurants and, as a proud signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative led by the UN Environment Programme and the World Tourism Association, has targeted to eliminate all single-use plastic from the resort by 2025. In efforts to increase its self-sufficiency, Alila Villas Uluwatu bottles its own drinking water, grows ingredients for its restaurants in an Organic Chili Garden, and has an on-site waste management facility, the Sustainability Lab, where all waste is sorted for reuse, recycling or upcycling in collaboration with community partners, ensuring no waste is sent to landfills.
“We feel that the modern-day luxury traveller is looking for sustainability in travel and to contribute in some form or other to the environment and the community,” says General Manager Hemal Jain. “With our new Positive Footprint booking, we will be able to provide a more personalised experience for those who desire a stay that is as sustainable as possible. It provides the best possible option for our guests, our community and our planet.”
The Positive Footprint booking option comes with a range of exclusive benefits, including:
- High quality, durable and stylish sandals made by ethical footwear brand Indosole utilising recycled tyres from the resort’s buggy cars.
- Complimentary minibar stocked with all-local products.
- Environmentally Conscious level of butler service with a mindful effort to save energy, water and waste.
- Departure gift of guest’s Indosole sandals and a set of drinking glasses made by the Sustainability Lab team from upcycling glass bottles.
In addition, guests can enjoy complimentary participation in two of the resort’s bespoke journeys.
On the Sustainability Journey, guests will take a tour with the resort’s Regenerative Tourism expert to learn about Alila Villas Uluwatu’s Sustainability Lab, which started in November 2019, as well as its self-sufficiency efforts and integrated design concept that works in harmony with the natural ecosystem. The journey will culminate with a complimentary farm-to-table sambal-making experience with the chef in the Organic Chili Garden.
As part of its Regenerative Tourism approach, Alila Villas Uluwatu invests in the development of the local community and encourages travel with purpose. On Journey to Community, guests will have the opportunity to visit two local foundations that the resort supports in their efforts to provide a better future for communities in need: Bali Life Foundation, a home that provides housing, education and health care to orphaned, abandoned and rejected children from the age of 5 to 15 in Bali; and R.O.L.E. Foundation, where guests can tour the facility and meet its team members, visit its community recycling centre in Nusa Dua, and join in a recycled paper-making workshop.
From its distinctive eco-conscious, integrated design to its strong commitment to social, cultural and environmental responsibilities, Alila Villas Uluwatu endeavours to integrate sustainability into the guest experience. With its new Positive Footprint booking option, guests can now elevate their sustainable stay to the next level, leaving a positive impact.
